SForce Apex Data Loader

Hi everyone,
I'm a Salesforce Admin, new to the boards, using a Macbook. I'm having trouble getting the Sforce data loader for mac to run. The program downloads ok, but just doesn't run. Am I missing something critical - is there an additional step that I am missing? Are there alternatives for running the data loader on the mac?

What you're missing is that its Windows only.

I'm referring to the data loader that I found from your blog - where the readme says "This is the first beta of the Sforce Data Loader for the Macintosh." That can't be windows only, can it?

I thought you meant the current data loader (which is windows only), the (now very old) mac sforce data loader build doesn't run, I can't remember exactly why, i think it might be been related to SWT versioning. I'm planning on getting a mac build of the current data loader put together.

I've downloaded the app but every time I try to use it, I keep getting the message that says "Invalid user name or password."  I know this isn't the case, as I just logged into Salesforce without a problem.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I tried and older version as well and still keep getting the same error.

You probably need to login with your password + security token

Great advice Simon - you were right - it is the password security token (this would have been the same in Windows Version also).

 

Do you know if the Excel Connector works on Excel for Mac? or if there is an equivilent for that too?

No, the excel connector doesn't work with Excel for Mac, the closest thing i know of is the mass update anything tool, which has a Mac version.

Is there any documentation for mapping/uploading opportunities? Keep getting error messages with inserting new records.
