SF Partner considering SF3 for client deployment - any words of advice?

we are a sfdc partner and we have a client with mac users.

they would like to sync contacts and appts between mac and sfdc

we are considering recommending sf3 but we want to understand user experiences because we may be responsible for helping them troubleshoot if we run into problems.

they are using Kerio Connect as a mail/contacts/calendar server

Don't!!!!

I am new to sfdc and use a Mac and iPhone. Maildrop is fine, but SF3 is a disaster! Simon, the developer, doesn't give a rats ass about actually making something that doesn't put your sfdc data in danger. Problems:

1. You can't import groups to AddressBook - that means it won't connect to iPhone - that means you always have to use the sfdc app on the iPhone. So, you have to have a cell signal or you can't get your data. Also, you won't know who is calling you like you do if numbers are in the Contacts on your iPhone (i.e. AddressBook).

2. There are bugs. Even if you don't sync the contacts and only use the calendar feature of SF3, it will still do funny things like import all of the company names in you contact list - this could cause some big problems, trust me!!!

3. I could go on forever. . . .

The bottom line is that you can use Appirio to do the calendar through google, and just use the sfdc iPhone app. Anyone you really love doing business with you simply put in by hand into Address book for the purpose of having in your iPhone contact list. It sucks, but until someone can do a proper sync to AddressBook, this is how your world will be. Also, sfdc doesn't care. They will tell you a solution exists and they lie. They don't mean to, but saying a solution exists and then saying it is SF3 is bullcrap.

Good luck . . . .

As a SFDC partner, I recommend you check out our Salesforce Certified Riva Integration Server.

Riva is now fully compatible with Mac Entourage and Mac OS X native Mail, iCal and Address Book and Hosted or On-premise Exchange:

http://www.omni-ts.com/newsroom/entourage-crm-integration.html
http://www.omni-ts.com/newsroom/mac-crm-sync.html
http://www.omni-ts.com/crm-integration/salesforce.html

Because Riva provides transparent server-side synchronization directly between Salesforce and Exchange, there are no Outlook plug-in dependencies.  Riva provides full integration with all Exchange clients running on all desktop and mobile operating systems including Outlook, Outlook Web Access, Terminal Services, Mac Entourage, Mac OS X Mail, iCal, Address Book, BlackBerry, iPhone and ActiveSync mobile devices.

And if you have customers with a limited number of Mac users to sync, they can access Riva Live in the Cloud:
