Cannot extract Force.com IDE archive

When I dowload the latest Force.com IDE for Mac OS, and I try to extract the .tgz file using Archive Utility, I get an error:

Unable to expand "force.com-ide-installer-macosx.tgz" into "Downloads". (Error 1 – Operation not permitted.)

Doing tar -zvzf force.com-ide-installer-macosx.tgz in the Terminal results in:

force.com-ide-installer-macosx/configuration/install-content.bin: (Empty error message)
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.

What's up with that?

One failure, one success.

Failed to open @ http://www.adnsandbox.com/tools/ide/install/ .

Succeeded @ http://media.developerforce.com/IDE/force.com-ide-installer-macosx.tgz .

My machine's specs:

MacBook Pro, 15-inch, Mid 2010

Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50d)

Succeeds on the two other Macs I'm using, both of which are 2011 models with Corei7 processors.

Happens for me too.

So I cannot get Force.IDE since both my Windows boxes already have Eclipse 3.7.

Only the Mac is available and the download does not work.

Is there another site from which it can be downloaded?

Same with me. I could download .tgz archive, but failed to extract by gzip.

$  gunzip force.com-ide-installer-macosx.tgz

gzip: force.com-ide-installer-macosx.tgz: unexpected end of file

I have disabled the cache in Safari but the same result is obtained.

The 50MB file stops after around 6-12MB and the resulting file is unusable.

I  tried downloading this file from both a Mac and a Windows system and at two separate locations with different ISPs and on several occasions over a period of several days.

Perhaps there is an issue with the content distribution network that is used for this country but nothing seems to work here.

Eventually I tried downloading it on an Android phone, uploading it via USB To my Windows machine, transferring it to my Mac via a memory stick.

That worked.

We are looking at this.  I should have an update EOD Monday.

We are still actively looking into the root cause. it appears to affect only a small number of users.

You can try to download the previous installers which should still install the latest plug-in version. If it doesn't, then upgrade to the newest version after installing the IDE.

Please let me know if that does or doesn't work.

Hi Thomas,

I tried to download from the link you showed. But it didn't work for me, too.

Thomas DvornikThomas Dvornik

We still have not been able to determaine the issue or a similarity between the users reporting this problem. I pushed a fresh copy of the installers, so please try to download them from http://www.adnsandbox.com/tools/ide/install/ again.

If that fails, we also pushed them to a different server which seems to be working for some of the users with issues. So please try one of the following links.

http://media.developerforce.com/IDE/force.com-ide-installer-linux-gtk-x86.tgz
http://media.developerforce.com/IDE/force.com-ide-installer-linux-gtk-x86_64.tgz
http://media.developerforce.com/IDE/force.com-ide-installer-macosx.tgz
http://media.developerforce.com/IDE/force.com-ide-installer-win32.exe
http://media.developerforce.com/IDE/force.com-ide-installer-win64.zip

Let me know which, if any, fail.

I've been having a miserable time lately trying to get the IDE on my machine.  I was having trouble with it so thought I'd just uninstall and reinstall...what a mistake.  The Win 64 bit won't download.  Tried main site and the media.developerforce you list below.  All these downloads pause 15-20% of way through.  It's not my machine as downloaded many other zip files, much larger, since then.

Issue has been problem for me for 1 month now.  I'm going to try the adnsandbox but something is wrong here as I've seen I'm not only one pulling my hair out trying to download these.

Perhaps we could launch a torrent of the software. Salesforce support, would you allow this?

Thanks Jeveleth. I'm happy one of them worked for you. Would you be willing to also provide your location, provider, and any network information (proxy, work, etc).

Bouke, I can't speak for Salesforce on a torrent, but my gut is telling me that it probably wouldn't happen. We plan to open source the IDE in the future, although there is no estimate for when that will happen.

@Thomas,

Sorry for the belated reply.

Same here (iMac - Australia - iiNet):

Failed to open @ http://www.adnsandbox.com/tools/ide/install/   >> tried multiple times over last couple of days

Succeeded @ http://media.developerforce.com/IDE/force.com-ide-installer-macosx.tgz

Update:

- Managed to download the file from media.developerforce.com but install failed on Mac

- Tried to download from Windows 7 first also over home network and failed

- Tried to download from office network on Windows 7 and also failed

- Tried to install eclipse Helios R2 and add the plugin - also failed ...

Will try the other Helios releases if they work - very frustrating start ...

Anyone got any other ideas what to try?
