Add custom component to page layout

How can I add a custom component to a home page layout or to a standard object page layout?

I don't want to emebed a visualforce page.

Hi,

 

I dont think you can add a custom component as such to a page layout. You can add visualforce pages but, when you edit the page layout you will find a section called "Visualforce Pages" just below "Custom Links"...
