Unable to Access Page

Hi,

When a user goes to add a new contact they see the error below.  Any ideas why?

Unable to Access Page Invalid parameter value "null" for parameter "id".

Error: The value of the parameter specified above contains a character that is not allowed or the value exceeds the maximum allowed length. Remove the character from the parameter value or reduce the value length and re-submit. If the error still persists, please report it to our Customer Support team and provide the URL of the page you were requesting as well as any other related information.

What URL are you using to access the page?

From the look of it, this is a visualforce page.  Do you have some code that is assuming there will always be an id passed into the page via the URL (and which is missing when the user adds a new contact)?

Hi,

The link works for me, it is pointing to

https://na5.salesforce.com/setup/ui/recordtypeselect.jsp?ent=Contact&retURL=%2F003%3Ffcf%3D00B70000006bL8c&save_new_url=%2F003%2Fe%3FretURL%3D%252F003%253Ffcf%253D00B70000006bL8c ('New contact' button on the 'Contacts' tab).  The user's link is pointing to https://na5.salesforce.com/003/e?nooverride=1&RecordType=null.

I'm not too sure about the coding. Does the above shed any light?

The RecordType=null is likely to be the candidate - I'd imagine the new contact page is trying to read the URL to determine the record type.

Do you know where the user gets that URL from (is it clicking a button, following a link?)

AKanAKan

The user gets to that URL by clicking on a button.

Is that a custom button? Does the user go through the record type selection page?

I have a similar problem.

What if I dont want the user to go through record type selection. Means the master record type to be selected automatically.

In my case, the child object is a custom object in master child relationship with account.

I am getting this when I try to edit the "Publisher Layouts" as system administrator. The detail error says "The value of the "type" parameter contains a character that is not allowed or the value exceeds the maximum allowed length. Remove the character from the parameter value or reduce the value length and resubmit. If the error still persists, report it to our Customer Support team. Provide the URL of the page you were requesting as well as any other related information. "

The URL is:
