CNB Would like the Opportunity Name field in the Opportunities tab to be a dropdown (picklist). If that's not an option, is it possible to rid of the Opportunity Name field and create my own custom field to then be a picklist?
If you want to use Visualforce, then, yes, you can make Name a dropdown. Otherwise, you're stuck with what you have.
By visualforce you mean a new CRM or upgrading from salesforce?
Visualforce is available in (most) all versions of salesforce.com. It's the platform whereby you can build custom interfaces. Check out the Visualforce Developer's Guide for details.
