Sending chatter notifications as mail when a record is inserted into custom object

Please suggest me how to send chatter notifications as mail like workflow email alert. I have this requirement.Please give ideas on this ASAP

Create a Trigger on your custom object and fired every time the record is inserted and then send the notification email.

Hi, I think the best optin is actually to post a chatter mention to the users you want to reach. That can be done in the trigger.
