Account Types- Totally confused!

Im fairly new to salesforce and have such a basic question that has been frustrating me for a long time! Im using Salesforce Unlimited account.

I am setting up our salesforce accounts and I cant decide which is the best record type to use, Traditional or Person accounts. Normally we have Accounts that have multple contacts assoicated with them. Am i limited to traditional accounts?

Thanks,

Luis

Hey,

This is a very common Confusion and answer to this depends on your requirement...

To start with try to understand what exactly are they and why they are used...Once you get that, you could use it in your org..

Business accounts available in: All Editions except Database.com

Person accounts available in: Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions

So What is  a Person Account?

Person accounts are not enabled by default in Salesforce. To quickly verify whether your organization uses person accounts, see if you have an option to select Person Account as the record type when you create a new account. To request person accounts, check with your administrator.

Traditional Account is a normal Business Account which is used on a regular basis..and you needn't contact Salesforce to activate the same..

Hi there,

If you serve or support individual clients or persons rather than business to business sales then you are a candidate for person asccounts. Its important to note that person accounts cannot be turned off once you have it activated but you can set up the system to handle both business and person accounts simultaneosly.

In the salesforce schema each time you create a person account it uses the space for 1 contact, and one account to make up a person account.

Hope this helps some.
