How to setup linkforce with custom domain?

Hi All,

I've setup linkforce at salesforce. And there was no instruction on linkforce with custom domain.

Can anyone teach me?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

Mike

Hiya, I wrote Linkforce. Custom domain is just a few extra steps:

First, add your custom domain under 'custom web address' in your site settings. Then update your linkforce custom settings to reflect your custom domain.

Hi,
That is very useful. One missing piece for me is knowing exactly how can we start using linkforce with our own mini URL? The rest of the steps work well i.e using it with our force.com site, but this last part is not that clear. Do we have to transfer the DNS somehow? Great app so far.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Cheers Rich

You'll need to add a CNAME record to your domain's DNS settings that points at your force.com site. More details in the help pages for Sites.

Thanks again for the help.

One question, can we setup our custom domain using http://domain.com or does it have to be http://www.domain.com ? We have it working ok and can shorten domains to our own domain but it only seems to work using www.

Some other forums say it is not possible to use without www. first.

sorry to bother, I know this may be a sites issue. Any help appreciated!

cheers

Rich

Yeah, that's a Sites thing. You'll need to use a subdomain with your custom url. Doesn't have to be www, but it needs to be at least one character. I recently set up a custom site domain for cha.tt, and we ended up using c.cha.tt.

Why would a subdomain behave different to a domain, in this context?

Is that the only way?

Given that the advice re. forwarding & DNS is to forward http://domain to www.domain with masking, and then point www.domain's CNAME to domain.foce.com, would a shortened url of http://domain then work, via the forwarding?

I just tried it with no joy, but if it's possible then let's get some clear instructions and I'll keep working on it.  Otherwise, no offence guys, but I'll go back to bit.ly. Subdomains in a shortened url sounds nuts to me  :smileysad:
