API Access to Custom Object Record Type

I was trying to use the Excel Connector and the Data loader and neither seem to be able to reference the Record Type field for a Custom Object. Is this not available or is there a work around?

I'm pretty sure the excel connector can, be sure you're on the latest.  I remember changing RTs before but I'm not 100% it was on a custom object.

I was able to verify the field access through the Eclipse plug in and the Latest Data loader but I still do not have access through the Excel connector. I am using 6.16 from feb 2006.

At least the new data loader get me past the import needs.

when you login using the excel connector you can specify the 7.0 API end point ( change 6.0 to 7.0)
then it should work
