Importing Contacts/Leads but how to associate with Accounts that are closely matched

I would like to import contacts and leads but have the issue of how to associate (or check) to see if a closely matched account already exists.  For example, importing a contact called John Blair at "Company X" versus John Blair at "Company X Inc."  I don't want to have two accounts since it is the same account but the second contact has "Inc." in their account name.

Is there any easy fix or tool out there?

In a similar vein, I'm interested in how to import contacts to many existing accounts when I know that the accounts are in the system, but I don't have time to pull all the Account IDs for each of these existing Accounts and add them into my rows of Contact information. Has anyone found a quick way to either pull existing matching Account IDs for a list of companies on an import sheet or ensure that the name is picked up on import through the data loader or similar free import tool.
