Connecting to my sandbox

Trish Perkins at FaithAction International House here, running the Nonprofit (Enterprise) Edition of SF.

I'd like to use the Excel Connector with my sandbox just to play with bulk data upload in the latest version of organizations (accounts) and contacts and converting leads to contacts.

I put "test" before salesforce in the url.

I logged in with my username and password. Nope. I added my security token. Nope. I tried backing out to start over and now I'm getting a whole rash of error messages. Could somebody just walk me through getting IN?

Hello Trish,

It just takes a few steps:

1) setup sandbox - you will get a setup email that tells you how to login. Let's say your sandbox is called "Developer1".

Your setup email will say:

Your new sandbox "Developer1" is ready for use. Click https://tapp0.salesforce.com/ to log in now.

Your users can log in from https://tapp0.salesforce.com/ by appending ".developer1" to their Salesforce user logins. For example, if your login in your production account is user@company.domain, then your login for this sandbox is user@company.domain.developer1.

The parts in red are important for the next 2 steps.

2) update the sforce connector so it is pointing to the right sandbox server: Go to the sforce connector menu in excel, select Options, go to the Advanced tab, and update the server URL so that it points to the URL above, in this case https://tapp0.salesforce.com/services/Soap/c/16.0

3) use the right username: (Logout of the sforce connector first) start the table query wizard, and at the login prompt, make sure your username looks like user@company.domain.developer1.

Your password will be your admin password.

I think that should do it.

I don't see the options menu to change the URL.

Also, the excel is showing salesforce instead of sforce connector.

Can you suggest something.

Ah, well...that Excell thingy. I never could find the directions to get it connected with my excel. Or, I did everything I was supposed to, and I never got any sforce button when I was in Excel. Really, I think I really just need a hand-holding session. Wah-wah-wah...

The whole idea is to be able to try out the new things before I take them over to our regular NPSF instance. But I just have NOT been able to get there from here, no way, no how.

Hi, I'm new using sforce connector in Excel. I had tried to change the url to point to my test environment but the advance button is not enable and it does not allow me to change the url mannually either.

Any tips?

Thanks
