how to integrate the sql database with the salesforce? If Any docs available please share the links.

Hi  Community,

I have a requirement to integrate the salesforce to the sql database.
1) How can we do this?
2) What are the different ways to do this and the best approach?
3) How much time does it take to accomplish this task?

We're using informatica cloud to automate this. I have automated connections running from sybase, postgres and mysql. It's really useful. I've done it with APIs in the past and it was a mess.
