Hi,

1.) Create a Sales Process. For help: https://help.salesforce.com/htviewhelpdoc?err=1&id=creating_multiple_business_processes.htm&siteLang=en_US
2.) Then create a new record type under Customize | Opportunities. For help: https://help.salesforce.com/htviewhelpdoc?err=1&id=creating_record_types.htm&siteLang=en_US

Hi Vimal,

You must have to create first a Sales Process and active it.
Because without any active sales process we cant create record type on Opportunity.

Record types are available only in Enterprise, Unlimited and Developer editions. You probably have Professional Edition or lower and hence cannot find record types, which is expected.
