Hi, Ch, it can get a little confusing:
Basically:

  • Salesforce, the company, is also the main CRM product that the company creates, the product itself comes in several different configurations, Group, Professional, Enterprise and Unlimited, plus it has various other components, Service, Desk.com, Work.com.
  • Developers can build apps for companies that use Salesforce, these apps can integrate with the other CRM components of Salesforce.
  • The underlying platform that Salesforce (the company) built to run and managed the Salesforce application was called the Force platform.
  • Developers can also build apps on the Force platform that do not integrate with the other CRM functions of Salesforce. These apps can use a lot of the built in functionality of the platform, security, reporting, UI, but don't necessarily have to.
  • Recently, within the last few months, Salesforce has moved away from calling its platform Force and instead is using the terminology Salesforce1, to show the integration between mobile, cloud, etc.
  • Salesforce (the company) also owns Heroku, a cloud provider, this is under the name of the Salesforce1 platform as well.
So, to answer your question, there isn't really a difference between a Salesforce and  a Force app, both are built using Salesforce's language Apex and use a lot of the same components.

Hi Ranjith,

Salesforce.com is the builtin CRM software provided by Salesforce.
Fore.com is the platform on which the Salesforce.com is Built and is being run on Force.com platform.

Salesforce.com apps are the standard apps something like Sales,Marketing,Call Centre etc..
Force.com Apps are the custom apps developped on the Force.com Platform.

Please mark it as solution if it suits.

Regards,
Vijay
