Expire all passwords in sandbox

Hi,

Under Security Controls, we have an option called expire all passwords. When we perform this action in a sandbox, does it expire passwords only in sandbox or will it effect the user passwords of production environment also?
My intention behind expiring all passwords in sandbox was to prevent all users except system administrator from accessing sandbox. Any turn around for this?

If you execute the action from the sandbox, it will only expire the passwords in the sandbox.
