what is purpose of console object in salesforce?

There is no standard object called "Console" in salesforce. Could you please elaborate on your question?

thanks for reply, but i can see the Console object when i click + symbol of tabs bar on top-right of login.salesforce.com and after clicking that object it is giving following message as "Insufficient Privileges. You do not have the level of access necessary to perform the operation you requested. Please contact the owner of the record or your administrator if access is necessary. " Could you please some more idea of the same.

There was this old feature called "agent console" which could be the one you are refering to: https://help.salesforce.com/HTViewHelpDoc?id=console_about.htm&language=en_US
