Can lightning be used to create offline apps

Hi,
is it possilbe to create an standalone app with lightning that can be used offline?

tha't's what I was afraid of. Makes it useless for most of our customers - they don't want to be constantly online when using their mobiles.

I heard *(under Safe Harbor of course) about something on the roadmap called "Lightning Out" that might be coming within the next year that would allow it.
