Adding External Data Source: Lightning Connect: OData 2.0 type not available

Hi, I'm trying to add an External Data Source of type Lightning Connect: OData 2.0 as described near the end of this article [1] but when I am on the New External Data Source [2] page, the only type in the dropdown is Simple URL.  I've checked Enable Lightning Components in the Develop | Lightning Components (Beta) menu.

Is there anything else I need to do to be able to select "Lightning Connect: OData 2.0" in the Type dropdown?  Thanks!

What type of instance are you in?  If you are in a developer sandbox then it should show up.  If you are in a real sandbox (or a production instance) you will need to reach out to Salesforce and purchase lightning connect in order to use it.

@pcon - Is this not available in Salesforce classic? I am in 'DevPro Sandbox' and i see only 'Simple URL' and 'Outgoing Email' options for Type.

I have the same issue, I do NOT have Salesforce Connect: OData 2.0 as a Type.  I'm logged into a Developer Sandbox using Classic.  @pcon @amulya, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rochelle: Developer sandboxes will only allow you to have one oData external data source at a time.  Do you have another external data source listed?

Nope, only this one just created.  I selected "Simple URL" just as a place holder.User-added image

@pcon - you aren't talking about the Connect Apps under Manage Apps, are you?  There are a few of those, do I need to delete these?User-added image

Are you in a sandbox or a developer org?  If your in a sandbox and your pirmary org has not paid for external data, then you will not see it.  You will need to spin up a developer org [1] or use a trailhead playground [2] to be able to use it.  If you are in a developer org, I'd recommend spinning up a new one or a new playground and trying in there.

Developer Edition Sandbox.  I can't use the trailhead playgound to set up the "External Data" because that is were I'm going to "show" the external data that should be in a Dev Org.  So, I need to create a new free Dev Org?

Thank you for all your help @pcon! I really appreciate it!

So this is the difference in terminology between a "developer org" and a "developer sandbox".  If you are wanting to show this data in a clone of your production org, then you would do this in a developer sandbox.  However, in order to get it into a developer sandbox, you will need to contact someone at Salesforce (I'd start with your sales-rep) to get it enabled for you.  They may be able to do it in a sandbox for a PoC for free, but to get it enabled in a production org, you will need to pay for it.  A developer org is an instance of Salesforce that is not tied to any paid subscription and is only used for development purposes.
