Rename standard objects as part of a package?

Is it possible to rename standard objects (like you can do through Setup | Customize | Rename Tabs & Labels) but via packages? We'd like to deploy a set of customizations across several orgs, and renaming is part of that.

I had asked if it was possible to package these changes. Your answer only demonstrates the standard way of renaming labels through the Setup menu.

For any other users coming across this post, it seems the Metadata API is the way to do this, specifically using Object Translations and the associated Case Values attributes: https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.api_meta.meta/api_meta/meta_customobjecttranslation.htm
