Why Governer Limits?

Why salesforce has set governer limits? Can we extend the governer limits? How can we avoid these?

Hi Sunil,

Salesforce is uses multinent architecture, where resources are shared by multiple users. So. Salesforce has kept governor limits to avoid any hicups while using salesforce. 

For avoiding governor limits depends on situations where u are creating classes, apex triggers, vf.... Depending on usage you need to plan accordingly.
