To maintain Salesforce certification credentials, all certified professionals must successfully complete three online, release-specific exams within a 12-month period. Release exams are published in conjunction with major product releases (Winter, Spring, and Summer).

Three times a year (winter, spring, and summer), Salesforce releases new system feature updates.  In accordance with these updates, all certified professionals are required to maintain their certification by taking a maintenance exam every release cycle.

Release cycles are about four months in length, and each release exam is available for two release cycles (about eight months). Refer to the schedule page on the Certification website for details regarding release exam completion deadlines: http://certification.salesforce.com/schedules. When the release exams are published you will receive an email with all the necessary details.

If you do not pass the release exam by its deadline, all credentials maintained by that exam will expire, or in some cases become suspended.

You will not be required to take the release exam for the same release cycle in which you first earned your credential. For example, if you were certified in Spring '14 your first release exam will be for Summer '14.

Earning a higher-level credential does not exempt you from having to take a release exam. You still need to take all release exams to maintain both your basic and higher-level credentials.

Release exams are 30-minute online and non-proctored exams that you can take at your convenience. Typically they are about 15 questions long, but can vary depending on the volume of new release changes. The exams are also open note, so you can refer to the online training and release notes during the exam. You are permitted three attempts on each release exam.

There is an annual USD 100 maintenance fee for all Salesforce Certified individuals who hold the following credentials:Salesforce Certified Administrator
Salesforce Certified Force.com DeveloperIf you hold both credentials, the annual cost to maintain them is USD 200. The annual maintenance fee also includes the cost to maintain any higher-level credentials.

Hi Sam,

Login to https://webassessor.com and register for the exam again. (You can also check whether it is actually expired or you need to give maintainence exam)

Note: You need to maintain your Salesforce credential with every release and if you miss deadline you forfeit your credential and you need to reapper for the exam. So as you are saying it expired in 2014 you need to take that exam again.

Thanks,
Himanshu

Hi Sam,

Renewing your Salesforce certification after a lapse can seem a bit tricky, but it's definitely manageable! Since your certification expired back in 2014, the renewal process has evolved. Salesforce now requires that you take the latest equivalent certification exam to reinstate your credentials. This is due to the many updates and new features Salesforce has rolled out over the years, which your original certification may not cover.
Here’s a step-by-step approach to get you back on track:

  • Update Your Knowledge: Before attempting the new exam, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the current Salesforce platform. The system has seen significant changes since 2014, with many new functionalities and best practices.
  • Study and Prepare: Take advantage of the various study materials available, including the official Salesforce Certification Trailmixes, study guides, and other online resources.
  • Exam Registration: Once you’re prepared, register for the current equivalent of the Force.com Developer certification, which would be the Salesforce Platform Developer I certification.
  • Take the Exam: Schedule your exam through a testing center or online proctoring.
  • Maintain Your Certification: Salesforce requires maintenance exams to be taken with each release cycle to keep your certification current.

To aid in your preparation, consider checking out Salesforce Certification Research (https://www.sfstaffingagency.com/salesforce-certification-research/). This resource is packed with up-to-date information, study tips, and insights into the Salesforce certification process, tailored to help professionals like yourself navigate the renewal with ease.
Remember, while the path to renewing your certification might require some study and effort, it’s a great opportunity to reacquaint yourself with Salesforce and refresh your skills for the modern marketplace.
Good luck!
