Is it possible to add stage or state quick change actions like Opportunity and Lead layouts have to custom object layout?

Hi, please see image below to clarify what I mean

Is same functionality possible to add to custom object layout? if I create for example "Project" custom object and  I would want to quicly switch stage of project or just highlight it like this.  Can it be done?

I am afraid, that is available only for sales object through lightning. You may need to opt for customizing that piece.
