Federated Authentication (SAML) for communities

If I define a SAML provider for federated authentication in a community - can this provider be different from the SAML provider for the Salesform platform?
I.e. Salesforce platform users would be authenticated by SAML IDP provider A, community users would be authenticated through SAML provider B?

Yes you can setup more than one SAML provider, and you can configure this specifically for your community.
Take a look at this document (http://resources.docs.salesforce.com/200/6/en-us/sfdc/pdf/salesforce_communities_implementation.pdf) - see section "Configure SAML for Communities" (it has an example of multiple IDPs)
