API integration loads values that are not in Picklist

We have some integrations that loads data intosalesforce. These integrations is somehow able to load values into the Picklist that are not in the picklist.
Can anyone tell me how this i posible? Is the only way to control this by creating reports and track it and correct it you self? Or can we force salesforce only to accept picklist values that are in the picklist?

I found that it is now possible to only accept values that are in the picklist. It is a setting that can be set in the settings of the field.

Hi Cristian,

Looks like it is working as expected - if you tke the example of data loader or import wizard - it also allows you to do the same. You will have to put checks /triggers to test the value of the picklist field being entered if random valves are entered in the fields.
