Hello,
An account has a account history at the bottom of the page laypout. how is it possible to have it for a custom object created.

go to Setup -> Create -> Objects, select your object, press Edit and check 'Track Field History' and press Save. Then go to the 'Custom fields & Relationships' list, there will be 'Set History Tracking' button where you can set which fields should be tracked.
