Consider the example  below:

Roles:

  • C-Level & E-Level Management
    • Sales Management
      • Sales Reps
    • Operations Management
      • Operations Dispatchers
    • Customer Service Management
      • Customer Service Reps

Sharing Settings for Opportunity are set to “Private”.  A Sharing Rule exists that grants Operations Dispatchers Read Access to Sales Reps’ opportunities.  Here’s how this would play out.  We’re looking at access to Sales Reps’ opportunities:

C-Level & E-Level ManagementFull Access (hierarchy)
Sales ManagementFull Access (hierarchy)
Sales RepsNo Access
Operations ManagementRead Access (granted by hierarchy)
Operations DispatcherRead Access (granted by sharing rule)
Customer Service ManagementNo Access
Customer Service RepsNo Access

My question regarding this example is,  how is that the "Sales Rep"  has no access dispite being above the role hierarchy of "Operations Dispatchers"?

Can someone explain this?

How do you hide a custom button for a specific user since we cannot use the clone page layout concept?

I want to trigger a workflow every time a record is updated.  I used this formula from SF:

https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewSolution?id=98335&language=en

It works, bu the problem is that it triggers both when the record is created AND when it's edited.  I only want it to trigger when the record is edited.  How can I exclude records that are being created?

Hi

My problem is that all the fields on my object are not visible.

Overview:

This is probably due to a mistake I made when forgetting to include the Profile in the change set when updating my work from the sandbox to the production.

Before I realized the mistake I refreshed my sandbox with the data in the production and now in both I can't see the objects' fields when creating a new one.

The only way I know to fix this is by going into each and every object and field and changing it's Field Level Security and sometimes also it's Field Accessibility but this is a lot of manual labor.

I did save my old src directory in my Forec.com IDE but I'm not sure how can I use the Profile, Layout and Object files to help me resolve this problem and reconstruct the old visibility definitions for the profiles.

I couldn't find where these settings are referenced in the files.

Is there any easy way to change all the files without going into each one or even better apply my old setting from the files I saved?

Help much appreciated...

Hi,

How do i create a workflow filed update rule when a record is deleted?

e.g. Case header has several line items, when a line item is added i am updating fields in another object. I cannot figure out when a case line item is deleted-How do i update the fields.

Appreciate your help.

Hi.

I have a custom object with a number of formula fields on it. One which I just added recently, a text formula field, is not available to add in to reports. It is a basic formula field which only references other fields directly on the object. There is no cross object stuff going on. The field appears to have full readability. However, it is just not available to select and drag onto any report.

Thanks,

David.

 i need a current user filter in the view list that is being displayed in the top of every tab in SF.. for ex :- i have a recruiting app.. and each recruiter has their own login.. if they login to the system they should be able to see the positions only they are assigned to.. the information of which will be stored in the Recruiter field (not Owner) under position record. they are requesting that if they choose a view they should be able to see only that.. as per my understanding...there is no option like that in SF.. any ideas? similar to my positions which will be useful only for owner fields...

I created a record type for the standard Lead object. I now would like to delete it but cannot as it says the 'Standard Platform User' profile uses this record type as its default.

The Platform based profiles do not have access to the Lead object and therefore Lead and its record types are not shown in the profile for the Standard Platform User'. So how do i remove this new record type for a Platform based profile?

I have numerous examples of using a Custom Button containing a Link URL to open a new Case and pass info to the new case. We have even implemented this for cases. However, what I would like to do is to open a new custom object record and pass data to that. Is that possible? When I try, using the very basic link: /500/e?retURL=%2F500%2Fo&RecordType=01280000000LpIW I receive the following error message: Insufficient Privileges You do not have the level of access necessary to perform the operation you requested. Please contact the owner of the record or your administrator if access is necessary. Which seems impossible given that I am running it as a Sys Admin. Does the link have to be structured differently for a custom object? Any help is appreciated.

Hi All,

I have selected some columns for the report and generated the report. I am getting the desired output in the report result. However, I want to change the report column names so that the column names are more meaningful.Is there a way to  change the report column names? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I need to pull a report (or view) that shows all cases that have been open more than 14 days.  I realize that we can pull a view and sort by the Date Opened ... but the management team would like to pull a report.  Is there a filter that I can pull without hard-coding a date?  Can I put into a report Date Opened is more than 14 days ago?

Hi I wanted to know, if anyone knows the variables needed to do report flitering in a custom link.

For example, I have a report that gives all the related detail of an account.

I want to place a Custom link on the Account Page Layout and when a user clicks on the link they only see that account information rather then thousands of account info...

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi,

My team and I are trying to create an Opportunity Field History Report, however it always turns up 0 records. We have several opportunities so I am not sure why this keeps happening. Are we not capturing the necessary fields?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Orly

Is there a way to automatically backfill an autonumber on existing object records?

Or does this have to be done programmatically via APEX?

Thanks for your insight in advance.

Hello, we have a validation rule that works fine when we use it with one Profile parameter (see Version One).  But it breaks if we try to add more (see Version 2 or 3).

Anyone know why this is and how I can expand it's function?  Notice the first time I excluded ALL users that were not CSR's, the second I tried to excluded ALL users not CSRs, Mktg, etc etc, and I think I caused some kind of dual exclude because after that No one could save.  The third I switched to the idea of EQUALS certain profiles instead of NOT EQUAL TO in the first two.

Version one

OR(ISPICKVAL(Opportunity.CSR_Processing_Status__c, "Pending"), ISPICKVAL(Opportunity.CSR_Processing_Status__c, "Working"))
&&
$User.ProfileId <> "00e60000000a5pv"

Version 2

OR(ISPICKVAL(Opportunity.CSR_Processing_Status__c, "Pending"), ISPICKVAL(Opportunity.CSR_Processing_Status__c, "Working"))
&&
$User.ProfileId <> "00e60000000a5pv,00e60000000avPC,00e60000000avPR,00e60000000aNgk"

Version 3

ISPICKVAL(Opportunity.CSR_Processing_Status__c, "Pending")
||
ISPICKVAL(Opportunity.CSR_Processing_Status__c, "Working")
&&
$User.ProfileId = "00e60000000avP7,00e60000000avPC,00e60000000avPR,00e60000000aNgk"

00e60000000nvPC,00e60000000nvPR,00e60000000oNgk

I also posted this on the New to Cloud Development Board ...

It would be great if we could assign an owner to a case at the creation of the case, rather than having to first save the case and then change the owner. Is there a setting or any way to do this in the standard case object?

Hi - SF Help & training indicates that you can add up to 4 columns to a dashboard table.  I'm still struggling with it, I can only get it to show 2.  Has anyone been successful with this?

Thanks

I have an easy one here, I think -- but my track record working with picklists in formulas is not so good.

I'm creating a custom field for Quotes to calculate sales tax.

I have a picklist field Sales Tax with two values: CA and Out-of-State.  Tax is 9.75% and 0%, respectively.

I'm trying to reference that picklist val to calc tax on a qoute's Total Price.

ISPICKVAL(Sales_Tax__c, "CA", (TotalPrice * 0.0975), 0)

The error I get is:

Incorrect number of parameters for ISPICKVAL(), expected 2 received 4.

I'd appreciate any help!

I am looking for helping bulkifying a trigger I wrote that updates the Owner on Account.  I understand the concept of bulkifying and tried reviewing other posts where people have requested similar help, but am at a loss.  I'm a beginner and learning and happy to just have created the trigger below...any help in bulkifying is appreciated.  Also, does bulkifying this trigger mean that the test class I wrote also needs to be updated?

trigger UpdateOrganizationOwner on Account (before insert, before update) {
for (Account a : trigger.new) {

if (a.RecordTypeId == '012000000000000'&& a.RM_ID__c!=null) {
  a.OwnerId = a.RM_User_ID__c;
  }
 }
}

I have a Visualforce page (developed per-Winter '11 by someone else, I'm not a developer) that shows a multi-select picklist field.  This field is showing all its possible picklist values, even though I have specified the values applicable to each record type.

I know in Winter '11 that Salesforce.com added Visualforce support for Record Types.  Reading through the Developers Guide (If the <apex:inputField> tag refers to a picklist field that's filtered by a record type the rendered <apex:inputField> component only displays options compatible with that record type.), I'm led to believe that my Visualforce page should just pick up the record type settings for my multi-select picklist field.  But that's not the case.  Wishful thinking?

Any guidance for what needs to be in place for the record type settings to be picked up?

Is Siteforce replacing Sites?  Or is Sites seen as a component of Siteforce?

I noticed that I am automatically redirected to http://www.force.com/products/siteforce when I enter http://www.force.com/sites.

Is there a datasheet available that helps me understand when Sites vs Sitesforce is the appropriate solution?

Hi there, I have a custom object for which I want to display a tab, but I do not want to show its standard New button. As I'm not aware of any ability to hide the standard New button on a custom object home tab, my solution is to create a Visualforce page/tab that takes the user directly to the object's list views (have also modified the List View settings within Search Layout options to hide buttons from list views) and show this to my users this instead of the custom object tab.

My solution is functional, but when I click on the Visualforce tab, it is much slower to load than any other standard/custom object tab. I'm an experienced Administrator with limited knowledge of Visualforce -- is there a different way to approach solving my requirement (hide standard New button)? Are there tweaks that I could make to my Visualforce page to make this work better?

The Visualforce page I created is very simple (CO is name of custom object):

<apex:page id="CO__c" >
    <apex:enhancedList type="CO__c" height="500" rowsPerPage="25" id="COList"/>
</apex:page>

Any advice on how to approach this differently? Can you think of changes to my Visualforce page that could improve page load time?

Thanks in advance,

Kristin

P.S. I have also tried overriding the custom object tab with my Visualforce page (instead of creating a Visualforce tab). That worked except in Internet Explorer -- if using Internet Explorer, the user was directed to the login page after clicking on the overridden custom object tab. Not good!

I am trying to setup a workflow time trigger that will fire 1095 days (3 years) after a specified date. When I try to set this up, however, I get an error message that my number is too large. I logged a case with Customer Support to find out the maximum # days allowed...assuming I will not be able to set this up using point and click, could Apex serve as a substitute here? I know Apex can be used to update records immediately...can it be written to a handle time-based trigger too? Can you think of any other way to make this work?

I'm totally stumped and I'm hoping someone can shed some light here.  I created a cross-object formula field on a custom object (I successfully compiled and saved the formula).  I added the field to my page layout and, as expected, can view a record and see a value displayed for my formula field.

What is not expected, however, is that the formula field for the SAME record as above now shows #Error! when I run a report or create a list view and include this field.  In fact, all my custom object records show #Error! for this field when running a report or while in a list view.

Can anyone explain why the report doesn't return the same value as when looking at an individual custom object record?

Kristin

One of my users is having an issue adding emails using Connect for Microsoft Outlook.

Per her login history, she is able to successfully login to Connect for Microsoft Outlook.  She is also able to login directly to Salesforce.com and see her Contacts.

However, when she tries to use "Add Email" within the connector and it searches for one of her contacts' email address, she is told that the contact can not be found, so she's not able to add the email.

She has tried typing the contact's name in the search bar of the Connector to find the contact, instead of their email address, but the search still does not find the contact.

Any ideas for what is preventing Connect for Microsoft Outlook from "seeing" her contacts?  She used to be able to add emails and we can't pinpoint what changed that made it stop working...

Hi there,

I have a new data entry VF page (and Apex Class).  When accessing the page in Internet Explorer, I had been receiving a Security Warning (The current Web page is trying to open a site in your Trusted sites list.  Do you want to allow this?).  I added https://c.<servername>.visualforce.com to my Trusted sites, which gets rid of the Security Warning, but now I get a Security Information alert (This page contains both secure and nonsecure items.  Do you want to display the nonsecure items?).

Is there another setting in IE that will suppress this Security Information alert, or do we need to modify the Apex Class/VF page?  Most of my users primarily use IE, so while I know Firefox handles this differently, I can't easily transition them all to Firefox and I don't want them to see this message every time they use the page in IE.

Any ideas?  Your replies are greatly appreciated!

Hi there, I have a need to automatically maintain a field (multi-select picklist) that I cannot accomplish using workflow.  More specifically...

  • I have my Account object.  On Account, I have a multi-select picklist field.
  • I have my Custom object.  On the custom object, I have a lookup to Account.
  • When I enter an Account on my custom object record, I want to take information from the custom object record and automatically update the multi-select picklist field on its related Account.  Because an Account can be related to multiple custom object records, I need this information to update the multi-select picklist, but not overwrite any existing values.

Is this possible with an Apex Trigger?  If yes, is it also possible to remove a specific value from the multi-select picklist if I removed the Account from the custom object?

Any comments or tips are greatly appreciated!

Hi there,

I used the Solution titled "How do I use formula fields to link to files on a network" and setup fields in my Sandbox per the instructions.  My hyperlink field works perfectly well in Internet Explorer, but nothing happens in Firefox.  The only advice from Salesforce.com Support has been to optimize my Firefox settings, which I did and the behavior hasn't changed.

Any ideas as to why this works in IE 7, but not Firefox 3?

Hi there,

I have setup Email-to-Case as a Service in my EE org.  It was easy to setup and works great -- as long as the Case Owner remembers to select the appropriate "From" address upon clicking the Send an Email button on the Emails related list.  If the Case Owner forgets, the email comes directly from them and the case contact's reply to that email does not get attached to the Case.

Is it possible to specify a default email address for a given User?  In this situation, I want to default the Email to Case Address for users who will be managing cases.  I can see where this default may not be desireable when sending Emails from other objects, but I think it makes sense for Cases.

Is there a different way of going about this?  The related list is not customizable so it does not appear I can do a custom button.

Thanks for your help.

Kristin

Hi everyone.  Does anyone know how to get foreign key resolution with external ID functionality using the Apex Data Loader?

I've seen it work (I believe it involved a modified and unsupported jar file), just don't know how to set it up for myself. I've read Simon's posting on Pocket Soap that addresses this topic for the API and Apex, but I'd like to get this working for the Apex Data Loader too.  Any ideas?

I am looking for helping bulkifying a trigger I wrote that updates the Owner on Account.  I understand the concept of bulkifying and tried reviewing other posts where people have requested similar help, but am at a loss.  I'm a beginner and learning and happy to just have created the trigger below...any help in bulkifying is appreciated.  Also, does bulkifying this trigger mean that the test class I wrote also needs to be updated?

  a.OwnerId = a.RM_User_ID__c;
  }
 }
}

Any guidance for what needs to be in place for the record type settings to be picked up?

Consider the example  below:

Roles:

  • C-Level & E-Level Management
    • Sales Management
      • Sales Reps
    • Operations Management
      • Operations Dispatchers
    • Customer Service Management
      • Customer Service Reps

Sharing Settings for Opportunity are set to “Private”.  A Sharing Rule exists that grants Operations Dispatchers Read Access to Sales Reps’ opportunities.  Here’s how this would play out.  We’re looking at access to Sales Reps’ opportunities:

C-Level & E-Level ManagementFull Access (hierarchy)
Sales ManagementFull Access (hierarchy)
Sales RepsNo Access
Operations ManagementRead Access (granted by hierarchy)
Operations DispatcherRead Access (granted by sharing rule)
Customer Service ManagementNo Access
Customer Service RepsNo Access

My question regarding this example is,  how is that the "Sales Rep"  has no access dispite being above the role hierarchy of "Operations Dispatchers"?

Can someone explain this?

Is Siteforce replacing Sites?  Or is Sites seen as a component of Siteforce?

I noticed that I am automatically redirected to http://www.force.com/products/siteforce when I enter http://www.force.com/sites.

Hey all,

I have a custom object that is the detail in a master-detail relationship with the Account object. When I create a new instance of the custom object I can select the account (via lookup) that the custom object is related to. But when I go to edit this custom object I am unable to change the master account to different one. I'm logging in as a system admin with view all and modify all permissions for both objects. The OWD for Account is private.

Am I missing something obvious here???

Hi, I have a field in contact which is URL. I want to display button instead of Link in realted list. Like if contact has URL field, then in Account page in the contact related list, that field should show up as button rather than link

This is something new , I dont have any idea how to do this.

 Thanks Shailu

How do you hide a custom button for a specific user since we cannot use the clone page layout concept?

We are evaluating Email to Case (On Demand).   It looks like the way it works out of the box is when we forward emails from support@company.com to the SF routing address, because the FromAddress for all the forwards is set to support@company.com, then all cases created via Email to Case (On Demand) will automatically have the Contact field set to a contact record for support@company.com (instead of the actual customer contact account for the person who sent the original email to support@company.com).

What is the recommended (best practice) way to tackle this without having to write something like an after Insert case trigger to update the Contact relationship and parsing the TextBody of the email from the EmailMessage object to determine the true "sender"'s email address?

thx!

Hi, When I try to update or insert records in sales force from external system, is there a way I can change the system fields like last modified by or created by user..?

also, when i perform a login call, does sales force provide any other way of authenticating the user apart form entering the password+token to get the session id, I dont know how secure it is to give the password everytime my session ends or ..just wanted to see if there is any other way I can have the data securely moved..pls advise.

Can merge fields be made conditional in the HTML  email template....

I want to test the condition whether a revenue is specified or not, if yes then give out the revenue other wise no revenue specified..

{ ! IF(Operator__c.Revenue__c > 0," An operator with revenue "{!Operator__c.Revenue__c},"Revenue not specified")}

Well it doesn't work, that I know but is there any way I could make it conditional and work?

Thanks and regards

I am trying to setup a workflow time trigger that will fire 1095 days (3 years) after a specified date. When I try to set this up, however, I get an error message that my number is too large. I logged a case with Customer Support to find out the maximum # days allowed...assuming I will not be able to set this up using point and click, could Apex serve as a substitute here? I know Apex can be used to update records immediately...can it be written to a handle time-based trigger too? Can you think of any other way to make this work?

I want to trigger a workflow every time a record is updated.  I used this formula from SF:

https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewSolution?id=98335&language=en

It works, bu the problem is that it triggers both when the record is created AND when it's edited.  I only want it to trigger when the record is edited.  How can I exclude records that are being created?

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with this because I can't seem to find any real documentation on Mailmerge templates in Salesforce nor can I find any samples.

In the past I've built Mailmerge templates for Opportunities that show all the Line Items for the opportunity.  I have custom objects related to an opportunity and I want to do a Mailmerge template that shows all the child records for an opportunity in a manner similar to Line Items.

I've tried doing this through Word and it returns the Opportunity items but it doesn't return the child object items.  So if anyone's got a sample Word document they'd be happy to pass along or tell me how I can address parent-child relationships in Mailmerge, I'd appreciate it.

Also I'm wondering if I can do a mailmerge for an Opportunity and show Line Items and also show Quotes and also show the records of custom child objects all in the same template.

Thanks in advance!!
