NFP Technologies, a national consulting firm who specializes in non-profit software, is looking for a professional contractor who is experienced with Salesforce.com.   Position entails managing and implementing Salesforce.com for nonprofits  software, training, and consulting projects.  There will also be possible consulting roles with other related non-profit software.  Interpersonal and relationship-building skills that allow success in professional, social and networking opportunities are a plus.  Must have the ability to work as a team player, combined with ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is also necessary.  A knowledge of Salesforce.com for nonprofits is helpful, but not required.

Minimal travel is involved.  This position requires about 10-15 hours a week.  Amount of pay received will be based on experience.

Please send resume to events@nfptech.com  or fax to (800)403-3606

For some reason the standard field "Manager" (type hierarchy) on the User object seems to be limited to displaying on the User page only.  It is not visible via the API (using APEX Explorer) nor can it be selected in a standard SF report.  I see nothing in the API reference guide that suggests this particular User object field can not referenced or queried via the API.

Am I missing something?  Is this not possible?  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks...

We are producing some great quotes using standard SFDC quoting and the only thing we cannot do to meet the customers needs is inserting a page break in a PDF that is generated.  It absolutely kills us that we might have to write a VF page just simply to insert a page break.  Has anyone come up with a solution?

Also, would be absolultey great if the pages numbered as well but that would be gravy.  Bottle of your favorite wine to anyone that emails us a solution.  Support@ioniasolutions.com

We have built a custom application and need access to field and object level security descriptors within SalesForce.com.  Our application utilizes a 3rd party application and we want to pass along the security description into the app.

Example:

If the user is logged in as an Administrator but would like to look at another profiles settings (via APEX) how would you query and/or access the field level CRUD access for all fields (standard and custom).  We are trying to loop through all profiles and provide a full description for all field access to the application during setup (and when any changes happen).

Good Morning;

To make a long story shot I want to capture an exception, send email, then re-throw the exception.  It seems that if any exception gets thrown it does a full rollback including the email messages.  The integration system(s) need the exception thrown for tracking purposes so it has to be thrown regardless.  Is there any way to send an email and have it sent even if an exception is thrown?  For background purposes below is the scenerio

1.) SalesForce.com webservice is called from an integration layer.

2.) The webservice updates data in SalesForce.com

3.) Webservice is wrapped with try catch

4.) Within catch we send an email to SFDC administrators and rethrow the error for integration layer.

We can obviously send the email within the integration layer but would love to keep all SFDC business logic within SalesForce.com.  If I remove the throw the email(s) get sent no problem but we need to throw the exception.

I need to get around "The email is not sent until the Apex transaction is committed."

Thoughts?

}
catch(Exception ex)

Messaging.SingleEmailMessage mail = new Messaging.SingleEmailMessage();

We have built a webservice which gets referenced from other SalesForce.com instances within an app to be released on the app exchange.  Within that webservice we will need to callout to another webservice outside SalesForce.com and continuously get the exception "System.CalloutException: Callout loop not allowed" and have tried every work around possible.  We have tried making the call asynchronous with the Callout=True attribute set and still get the exception.  Please tell me that SalesForce.com did not disallow WebService->WebService callouts?

Does the customer portal correctly work with a custom URL?  From our testing it authenticates the login but it views you as the annonymous user you have configured your sites to run as.  No tabs appear (home only), the edit my profile link disappears, etc.

How we are running it

1.) We have sites setup to run the website with custom URL/CNAME pointing etc.

2.) Require Non-Secure Connections (HTTP) = True

3.) We use the login component to login from the homepage

4.) Upon successful login (within the login component)we redirect them to http://www.CustomURL.com/home/home.jsp?retUrl=/home/home.jsp

5.) If we do not redirect them the tabs are fine but when we redirect them tabs disappear.

Question: Since this seems to screw with the customer portal how do we get the custom URL to work with the customer portal?

Thanks

Question: Will tabs in the customer portal appear if you are using a custom URL?  My Theory is no

Issue:

We are using Sites to host the anonymous website and using the customer portal as login from sites into managing your own data.  What we are experiencing is the only tab which will appear is the "home" tab if you are using the custom URL within the portal.  Login is successful and sites work as expected, authentication works but page rendering does not.

If we change the url from "www.CustomUrl.com" to "na1.salesforce.com" all tabs appear as expected.  Login successful all you do is change URL and tabs appear/disappear because of the url used.

Does Not Work: http://www.CustomURL.com/home/home.jsp?retUrl=/home/home.jsp

Does Not Work:  http://SiteName.Force.com/home/home.jsp?retUrl=/home/home.jsp

Works: http://na1.salesforce.com/home/home.jsp?retUrl=/home/home.jsp

We have validated the customer portal works as expected using the standard URL.  Since the security is correctly authenticating the user and allowing entry to the customer portal how/why would the tabs be displayed differently?  The only time all tabs appear is when you use the na1.salesforce.com and it does not even request you login you simply change the URL and tabs appear/disappear.

Clarification:

1.) Require Non-Secure Connections (HTTP) = True

2.) We redirect them upon successful login to http://www.CustomURL.com/home/home.jsp?retUrl=/home/home.jsp

3.) Page renders with authenticated user and only tab that appears is "home"

4.) If we login from the contact record and view user in portal then all tabs appear correctly.  Change URL they disappear.

DNS Information

www.CustomURL.com has a CNAME pointing to SiteName.force.com

Pointed www.CustomURL.com to point to Na1.SalesForce.com vs SiteName.force.com  waited 24 hours did not work.

Any thoughts?

We are just testing out OnDemand Email to Case and it works great, what is the format to send an email into an existing case.  I would expect something like Case#: 1234355 and not the guid used to uniquely identifies the case.  The customer service rep will be on the phone with the end client and give them the case # and put it in the body or the subject.  I cannot find it in the documentation for the ondemand with how to format the email.

Please tell me this exists seems silly that it wouldn't.

Hey

I'd like to make an API call to login, and then redirect a user to a visualforce page that is only available to authenticated users. I can think of one tricky way to do it, but latency would probably be impacted. I'm sure it's as simple as setting some http header parameters and redirecting to the URL but I can't find out what these headers might be called. I did come across an alternative:

A couple of things to think about:

Is this page going to be hosted on your website?
Is this going to be used for multiple salesforce organizations?
One thing you can do is use the login() API call to get a session id. You will be able to tell if the login fails, and alert the user appropriately.

From there, you will have to redirect the user through the "frontdoor.jsp" page which has the following format:

https://[host].salesforce.com/secur/frontdoor.jsp?sid=[session_id]&retURL=[start_page]
Where:

[host] - varies by organization. Some that I've seen are na1, na2, .... If you are only building this for 1 organization, you could hard-code this value. If you are building the for multiple organizations, you could parse it from the serverUrl property of the returned LoginResult.
[session_id] - get this from the returned LoginResult
[start_page] - this is optional but can be used to "deep link" a user to a page after they've logged in.

But I'm worried that some part of this URL and/or JSP could change without notice. Any ideas or info you could point me to?

Wes

Is there any way to allow daisy-chaining of CNAMES? For example:

CNAME.EndUser.com --> CNAME.OurDomain.com --> OurDomain.Force.com

I'm quite sure this functionality doesn't yet exist, but I'm wondering if it might ever so we can determine whether Force.com Sites can support our business requirements. I also think it's an important consideration for any end-user customizable applications people might want to build on Force.com.

We're developing an application to provide customers with customized web pages. We want to offer a high degree of customization, including subdomains. Without going into too much detail on the functionality, imagine that we create a page for Company A. The page is served from a Force.com site at www.CustomizedPages.com. This part is fairly straightforward; we just create a CNAME record with our domain registrar.

But now imagine that Company A wants to display a customized page under its own domain, such as at CustomizedPage.CompanyA.com. They would need to do this with a CNAME to www.CustomizedPages.com, which in turn would CNAME to the Force.com Sites platform.

Problem is, Force.com Sites doesn't know what to do with the CNAME CustomizedPage.CompanyA.com. So it doesn't handle the request, and doesn't render the page.

So, two questions:

  1. Is it currently possible to handle this, such as by writing a custom error handler?
  2. If it's not currently possible to this, might it ever be?

If the answer to both questions is no, we'll probably need to bypass Force.com Sites for another platform, which would be a shame given how rapidly we've been able to develop our prototype application.

Thanks for all help,

Simon

Hello,

We are a high tech firm that needs a Dallas based admin to help us in an outsourched fashion.  We would like to start with some simple changes, and then ask for more complex functions as time passes.  Consultative approach is required.

Please call me at 972-616-1180

Thank you,

Erin

We are currently looking for a programmer who can offer us assistance in extending our implementation of SalesForce by designing and implementing an opportunity priority schema which will drive our sales team activities via tasks.

A common scenario would be after a new user logs in to our portal and uses x number of features have an automated email kick out, from there if y happens task rep A,B, or C to place a call.

If this is something you think you are capable of we would like to talk. You will need to visit our office in boston prior to accepting the position. If this is not an option for you please consider that before responding. I can be reached at Wayne@LifeTips.com.
